In 2024, Ontario is allowed to bring in more immigrants through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The provincial nomination quota or limit for the OINP, has increased by 5,000 to 21,500 in 2024.
This boost is part of Ontario’s ongoing efforts to fill critical labor shortages and support economic growth by attracting skilled workers from around the globe.
Each year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocates a provincial nominee quota to each province, enabling them to select immigrants according to their specific requirements.
Last year, in 2023, Ontario could nominate 16,500 people, up from 9,750 in 2022 and 9,000 in 2021. The new number for 2024 means Ontario can nominate about 20% of all the immigrants the country plans to welcome this year.

This increase in the number of immigrants Ontario can nominate was unexpected because Alberta’s provincial nomination quota for 2024 is lower.
Since 2021, Ontario has been asking the federal government to give them more spots for immigrants, and now they’ve seen two years of consecutive increases. By 2025, they hope to have even more spots available, with over 24,000 each year.
