Canada Carbon Rebate, previously known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment (CAIP)
The Canada Carbon Rebate (previously known as CAIP) is a tax-free payment from the government to help individuals and families manage the expenses of federal carbon pricing.
If you live in these provinces with the federal fuel levy—Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador—A family of four will get up to $1,800 through the Canada Carbon Rebate in 2024-25.
Starting in April 2024, people in these provinces will receive the first of four payments every three months. The Canada Carbon Rebate is given in four payments: April, July, October, and January.
Here’s how much a family of four can get in each province:
- Alberta: $1,800 ($450 each quarter)
- Manitoba: $1,200 ($300 each quarter)
- Ontario: $1,120 ($280 each quarter)
- Saskatchewan: $1,504 ($376 each quarter)
- New Brunswick: $760 ($190 each quarter)
- Nova Scotia: $824 ($206 each quarter)
- Prince Edward Island: $880 ($220 each quarter)
- Newfoundland and Labrador: $1,192 ($298 each quarter)
So, depending on where you live, families can receive different amounts as part of the Canada Carbon Tax Rebate 2024.
Starting in 2024–25, rural Canadians will receive a 20% increase in the Canada Carbon Rebate to recognize their higher energy use and limited access to cleaner transportation.
